News from some sequels I care nothing about came out today.  Let’s start with Enchanted 2, which Variety is reporting Disney is moving forward with.  It will be written by Jessie Nelson, directed by Anne Fletcher and produced by Barry Josephson and Barry Sonnenfeld.  The Barrys produced the first film, which made $340.5 million worldwide (really?!) and cost about $85 million to make.  The first movie starred Amy Adams, Patrick Dempsey, James Marsden, Timothy Spall, Idina Menzel, Rachel Covey and Susan Sarandon but at this point there is no news about any of the cast.  Next!

Variety is also reporting that Fa5t and Furiou5, with the working title Fast Five, is being fast tracked.  That last sentence made me shudder for so many reasons.  Variety is reporting that Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, director Justin Lin and producer Neal Moritz have all signed on to return.  Fast and Furious was apparently Universal’s top grosser of 2009, and of the Fast franchise, pulling in $343 million worldwide.  Fast Five is being written by Chris Morgan and will see Dom (Vinny D) and Brain (P-Walk) as fugitives being chased by Johnny Law (meaning the police force, not an actual person named Johnny Law.  Normally I wouldn’t bother to clarify that but they are calling the damn movie Fast Five so you never know).  Filming is scheduled for later in the year, with a release sometime in 2011.

And finally, Variety is reporting that Columbia Pictures is going forward with the third movie in The Da Vinci Code series.  It will be adapted from Dan Brown’s The Lost Symbol by Steven Knight, and will presumably involve a lost symbol and a puzzle that needs to be solved.  Tom Hanks hasn’t confirmed his return to the franchise but he is expected to, because he will get paid an assload of money.  Brain Grazer and John Calley are producing.
